Since 2009, at the end of each year, the DCA invites the community to nominate someone from the village, who in their opinion, has made a significant contribution to the community or has accomplished an exceptional achievement that is worthy of praise. Someone who has shown an act of bravery, or good citizenship or a special talent in music or sport, or simply someone who deserves to be honoured for being ‘their’ local Hero. From the nominations, the DCA committee decide who should receive the award of “Diggle Hero”.
2011 Diggle Heros
Adult Category: Wendy Bradbury
Along with the late Mrs. Christine Wood, Wendy co-founded Diggle Youth Club activities for 7-11 year olds at Wrigley Mill Methodist Centre. For eighteen years during term time Wendy led a programme of events for the Youth Club. Her commitment involved setting up weekly activities and cleaning up after them. Wendy obtained grants for new equipment, shopped for tuck, informed parents about special events and kept and managed the accounts. Sadly, in July2011 the club closed due to increased running costs. Wendy’s nomination recorded her dedication and concern for the many children from several generations attending the club and who, with her, enjoyed the social benefits she and the club provided.
