ACCOMMODATION AND PUBLIC HOUSES IN DIGGLE
Over the years Diggle has had probably more than its fair share of public houses.  Currently there are only two:  the Hanging Gate and the Diggle Hotel, both are worth a visit. At various times there have been 5 others, some operational for only a few years. Significantly the now-closed public houses were predominately open when the large number of navvies were working on the tunnels for both the canal and the railway.
